What’s new
Managing returns is now more flexible than ever. We've introduced new features that let you tailor return settings to better align with your business processes.
General Flow
The app now supports a list of ZZ-approved carrier services that can be used to generate return labels once a request is made. To enable this, you’ll need to complete the following steps:
- Set up a payment method in the app (no changes here)
- Create warehouse(s) in the app (new feature)
- Define return journey(s) in the app (new feature)
Warehouse details
Shopify allows multiple store locations—ideal for retailers operating out of several warehouses, either within the same country or internationally. For example, you may have warehouses in both London and Glasgow. Orders from customers in England could be fulfilled from London, while Scottish orders may be dispatched from Glasgow. The same logic applies across borders—one location can serve local markets, and another can handle international returns.
With our latest update, the ZZRE app now allows you to create specific return warehouses, replacing the old "Return Address" field on the Carriers & Labels page. You can now manage multiple return destinations with ease.
In the Warehouse Details section of the app, you can:
- Add or edit address details
- Set contact points
- Define preferred language, currency, and time zone for each warehouse
The warehouse(s) can be created based on store locations added within Shopify. Once the lo Warehouses are created based on your existing Shopify store locations. When you select a location from the dropdown, related details will auto-fill from Shopify—but everything remains editable. If your Shopify location data changes, you’ll be notified and can easily update your warehouse details with a single click using the “Sync from Shopify” button.
Note: For existing UK-based retailers, ZZRE will automatically create a warehouse using your previously defined return address - no action needed on your part.
Return Journey Lanes
Now that you can create multiple return destination warehouses, we’ve added the ability to set up return journeys. Each return journey pairs a return origin with a return destination and assigns specific carrier services to that route.
This can be configured on the Return Journeys section of the Carriers & Labels page.
Once you select a return origin and destination warehouse, the app will display a list of compatible ZZ carrier services for that specific journey. You can then enable services accordingly.
Note: A carrier service can only be assigned to one journey at a time.
Example:
Let’s revisit our earlier example with warehouses in London and Glasgow.
Journey 1:- Return Origin: UK
- Destination: London
- Enabled Carrier: Yodel
- Customer sees Yodel as the return option
- Return Origin: UK
- Destination: Glasgow
- Enabled Carrier: DPD (e.g., Yodel isn’t optimal for Scotland)
For each journey, you can:
- Set a return shipping fee that’s deducted from the customer’s refund (if applicable)
- View carrier label prices (charged to you as usual)
This setup allows you to offer location-specific carrier options and return fees—ensuring smoother operations and improved cost efficiency for you and your customers.
When a return is initiated, your customer will see multiple return service options (e.g., to London or Glasgow), each with its own pricing.
Automatic Setup for Existing UK Retailers
To ensure a smooth transition, the ZZRE app will automatically create a return journey for existing UK-based retailers, using:
- Return origin: UK
- Destination warehouse: Automatically generated (based on previous Return Address)
- Enabled services: Same as previously used
- "Your cost per return": No changes
- "Your customer pays": Pulled from the return shipping fee previously set on the Refunds & Exchanges page
You can edit these settings anytime, but no action is required if you're happy with your current configuration.
